Dear Parishioners and Friends:

Thursday, February 9th, 2012 is the Anniversary of

the signing of the decree making our Church a Basilica.

Consequently, all those attending Mass in the Basilica on

Thursday and receiving Holy Communion, may receive a

Plenary Indulgence under the conditions that they go to

Confession within 20 days before or after the 9th and pray

for the intentions of our Holy Father.

On Friday, February 10th, I will celebrate Mass on TV at

10:00A.M. on Channel 20.  Children from the sixth grade of

St. Mary School will be in the studio with me.  Tune in and

pray along with us.

On Saturday, February 11th, the Glee Club from Fairfield University will sing

at the 4:15 Mass and give a concert at 7:00P.M. Be sure to mark your calendar

so you will not miss these performances.

In the Gospel today, February 5th, our Lord cures the leper.  By simply touching him, our Lord gives him a whole new life.  He is no longer ritually impure so he can participate in the temple worship.  He is no longer a social outcast he can now live fully in society, he no longer has to stay away from town and village.  Our Lord does the same for us when we present ourselves for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  By the words of absolution we, too, are made ritually clean. We can fully participate in the Holy Mass and receive our Lord himself in Holy Communion.  How great is our God!

  Sincerely yours,

Reverend John J. Bevins, Rector

Basilica of The Immaculate Conception
